June 12th, 2015 | Summertime Stains

 beach

Hello everyone, summer is in full swing and we hope everyone is enjoying this time of the year when warm weather reigns, the sun shines longer, and we can all spend more time outdoors doing the things we love. Summer seams to come with its own set of fun activities like hiking, eating ice cream, having picnics and barbecues, and going swimming. These things all can cause their own unique stains to clothes, but that’s no reason to not enjoy this wonderful time of year. Go ahead and enjoy your summer and we’ll help you take care of any summertime stains you might encounter!

Grass Stains: grass stains are very common during the summer months and come in many varieties. Luckily, they are fairly simple to remove. For really tough grass stains we recommend soaking the garment in a bowl of warm water with a small amount of laundry detergent for about 30 minutes and then simply follow the normal launder instructions.

Mud Stains: little ones are bound to get muddy during their summer adventures. The best way to treat these stains is to let the mud dry and then remove as much of the mud as possible with a utensil. Once that is complete, wet the affected area, apply a small amount of detergent and rub the stain out. Once you’ve treated the stain launder normally.

Ice Cream Stains: ice cream is both delicious and dangerous, so be careful when you’re enjoying this summer treat. If you get an ice cream stain we recommend soaking the garment in cool water for 10 minutes. After that rub some detergent into the stain followed by 30 more minutes of soaking in room temperature water. Finally, apply some sort of spot remover for 7-10 minutes before laundering normally.

Ketchup/Mustard Stains: It’s difficult to have a proper barbecue without ketchup and mustard present, and stains are bound to happen here. First of all, scrape away the excess condiment, and then run the affected area under cool water. Next, rub the stain out with detergent, working your way from the outside of the stain inward. For white garments you may try applying some lemon juice or white vinegar as a bleaching element. Of course, launder as normal once the stain is removed.

Sunscreen Stains: These stains may happen during your day at the beach or pool, and fortunately it doesn’t take much to conquer them. We recommend applying a spot remover to the stain, and then pretreating by rubbing it with warm water and detergent before washing it normally.

Happy summer to everyone, and now that you know how to handle the stains, have fun out there without worrying!

May 15th, 2015 | Allergy Awareness Month

pollen

May is Allergy Awareness Month, just in time for the usual slew of allergens to return in the spring time.. With 1 in 5 Americans suffering from either allergy or asthma symptoms, we need to do all we can to ensure we have clean homes to reduce the effects of these illnesses. Chem-Dry specializes in exactly that. We fight allergens and make your home cleaner and healthier to make the transition into spring easier on you and your family. Aside from having your home cleaned by us there are additional steps you can take to reduce the effects of the season:

Spring Cleaning: By keeping your home clean and tidy you can help reduce the amount of allergens and dust mites that exist in your home. Do simple things like emptying the trash daily, washing your bedding often, changing the filter in your furnace and air conditioner, and getting rid of any mildew. You’ll be surprised how such simple changes can make a big difference.

Keep Allergens at Bay: Part of the problem is that allergens cling to us and follow us into our homes. One way to keep them at bay is to remove your shoes, jacket, and hat when you enter the home. This way you leave them at the door instead of allowing them to tag along through the rest of the house. Another smart tip is to bathe at night, or even simply wash your hair before bed. This keeps your sleeping area clean and allergen free, which will allow you to get great sleep and wake up refreshed each day!

Pet Control: We all love our pets, but they are a common cause of allergies. There are some simple things you can do to reduce the allergy effects of having a pet while still being able to have them as part of your family. You’ll want to keep your pets off of couches, beds, and other living areas and ensure you clean up after them regularly. This includes bathing them on a regular basis. Your pets are lucky to have you, and following these simple tips can allow you to enjoy them without suffering from allergies.

While there are a lot of advantages to the Chem-Dry method, our ability to clean more effectively than any other brand or technique available is what makes us the best choice for your family. We use the power of carbonation to make your carpets look and feel like they are new again. This is a unique cleaning technique pioneered by the experts at Chem-Dry of Hillsboro.

Since carbonation has natural “lifting” qualities, it always rises to the top. Anyone who has ever poured a carbonated drink into a glass has seen this principle in action, as the bubbles always rise to the top.Chem-Dry of Hillsboro has taken advantage of that same principle and, through the power of carbonation, lifts the dirt out of your carpet. The carbonation in Chem-Dry of Hillsboro's solution creates millions of reactions to remove all of the unwanted filth from your carpets. The results will surprise and delight you. Our method completely removes carpet debris and stains, giving you the most fulfilling clean feeling you can get from having your carpets and upholstery cleaned.

Steam cleaners use gallons of soapy water and high pressure rather than the gentle, yet powerful carbonation cleaning. This method drives dirt and moisture down into your carpet, hiding the mess rather than cleaning it, and creates a breeding ground for mold and other bacteria. In addition, because of the excess water used in this process, your carpets will take at least 1-2 days to fully dry.Since Chem-Dry of Hillsboro uses the least amount of water possible, however, your carpets will be dry within just 1-2 hours. The Chem-Dry way is not only more convenient, but 24 times faster than what you can expect from our competitors.Providing a deeper, more convenient clean without the price tag, that's the Chem-Dry difference!

Since we offer our incredible services at such affordable prices, we're confident our service can fit any home or budget. For the best carpet cleaning available, call us today!

After finding a stain on your carpets, first instinct may be to call the professionals to take out the stain. Despite the fact that most carpet cleaners won't tell you this, most of your usual stains and spots will come out with a few easy home remedies. We want to let you in on some of the secrets that the other guys wouldn't want to tell you.

Surprisingly, one of the best solutions to stains and spots is simply warm water and a white towel. Just dampen the stain and blot it with your cloth. As you are blotting, make sure not to aggressively scrub the spot because this may cause fraying or spread the stain around. Blotting out the stain with the towel is the best way to remove it from your carpet. As the spot transfers to your towel, the cloth will start to darken. Check your towel for this transfer often. Stop the process if you can't see any darkening.

After water, club soda is the next step up. Chem-Dry uses club soda as a key ingredient, making it an excellent solution for removing those tough stains. This process is similar to the warm water process. Just dampen the carpet with the club soda and blot the stain checking for transfer often. It's time to call a professional if club soda doesn't give you results. Our stain removal process is one of the most advanced in the industry, with multiple cleaning solutions that penetrate deep into the carpet's fiber, leaving no trace of the stain. We can get out every stain, guaranteed.

Although they may have the best intentions, kids and pets are known to make the home a mess during these summer months. Fortunately, the mess once again becomes manageable when school finally starts. As you start helping your kids return to school, we're more than happy to take care of the messes they left.

Chem-Dry provides a deeper clean and dry times in just one to two hours due to our unique process. The best part is that with the small amounts of water being used, carpets cleaned by Chem-Dry are cleaner in only a few hours! Give us a call or click for a free estimate today!

By relying on Chem-Dry, you can make your home clean and safe from allergies when you most need it.

Carpets absorb and collect common allergens, dust and germs that can spread illness, cause allergies and make asthma symptoms worse for you and your family. Chem-Dry of Hillsboro is primed and ready to partner with you for this year’s Spring Cleaning! Clearing out unused items and cleaning up your home helps us feel better. But more importantly, a deep spring cleaning in your home can help your family stay healthy and allergy-free this summer.

Most households can easily have a buildup of dust and dirt that are tracked in during the winter months. In addition, germs from colds, flu viruses and other illnesses stay stagnant in your home when the windows are closed. Opening your windows helps freshen the air, but it doesn’t help clear out the buildup of dust, dirt and germs that has built up in your carpets. Spring and summer can also bring mild or extreme allergies for many people. Over 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. Doing a complete spring cleaning can decrease allergy symptoms by removing dust, mites, bacteria and other allergens hiding on indoor surfaces, carpets, and upholstery.

Cleaning all surfaces, including hard-to-reach and hidden areas can reduce the allergens in your home. Cleaning blinds and removing unused bedding and plush toys can help as well.

We can help your deep spring cleaning efforts by:
- Deep cleaning your carpets, rugs, and upholstery. Our services help remove the hidden allergens in your carpets, and furniture.
- Applying our Sanitizer and Dust Mite Allergen Treatment. These products can keep your carpet free of dust mites for an extended time.

Please contact us so that we can create a custom plan for your cleaning needs!

You may have a big family, or live alone. Either way, you have many more roommates than you can see.  Every time you leave your home, you track bacteria from outside into your carpets and onto your furniture. While this is just part of life, there are precautions that you can take to stop the spreading of these germs from your couch or your area rug to a dropped cookie or the fingers of a small child.

Chem-Dry uses a carbonated cleaning technique that is minimally invasive to your carpet fibers. We use 80% less water than our competitors, yet our powerful equipment extracts way more dirt and grime than any other carpet cleaning company out there. Also, our process provides you with a deeper clean, while maintaining a shorter drying time. That means there is less time for the bacteria and mold growing deep in your carpets and furniture to multiply and thrive on the moisture.

No one likes a roommate that skips out on rent. Don’t fall victim to the nasty mold stains or bacteria-filled carpets that could creep up on your before you know it!

It’s important to stay informed about your carpet’s warranty. According to an article by Tom Wolfe from Impressions Carpet Services, “A percentage of what you paid for your carpet went to cover the anticipated costs to the manufacturer for warranty claims. [These] claims are more often than not the result of poor, or improper, maintenance. Over the last few years, carpet manufacturers have begun to tie warranties to required maintenance by the carpet purchaser.

This means that whether you are in the market for new carpet or not, you need to be aware that the requirements are become more strict for warranties. “The bottom line is that proper maintenance will help you get a greater return on your carpet investment, no matter when it was purchased,” the article goes on to say.

Some of the main issues that manufacturers are addressing fall into 4 categories:

1. The proper cleaning method.
Most carpet mills require the Hot-Water Extraction Cleaning process, which is the method that Chem-Dry uses to give your carpets a deep clean without damaging the carpet fibers.

2. The proper cleaning schedule.
As a general rule, all major manufacturers have a minimum requirement that carpets be cleaned every 1-2 years. (keep your receipts as proof)

3. The proper cleaning system.
Your carpets should be cleaned professionally by equipment that is tested and certified with the Carpet and Rug Institute. All Chem-Dry equipment is certified and rated GOLD with the CRI, providing your home with the best technicians and equipment to get your carpets cleaner than ever.

4. The proper cleaning technician.
The single most important aspect in proper cleaning is to get the right person to do the job. All Chem-Dry technicians are trained and certified to deliver amazing results, while maintaining efficiency and staying affordable.

Stick with these handy rules to stay up to date with your warranty and keep your carpet looking great – FOREVER!
